With big health stories hitting the headlines nearly every day, from increasing cancer rates to the rise in obesity, it’s no wonder that Ask The Doctor magazine is proving so popular with you readers. I’m delighted to be guest editing my third issue. The last year has been my busiest yet, television-wise, with new series’ of Supersize vs Superskinny, Embarrassing Bodies, Embarrassing Bodies: Live From The Clinic and, for a touch of light relief, you may have also seen me on a few quiz and panel shows, which has been great fun. But it’s the health stories that are close to my heart and in this issue we are covering so many huge topics that I know, from talking to my patients in my GP clinic, really concern you all. Cancer worries most people and you may be shocked at what you find out in Surprising Cancer Risk Raisers on pg 34. We also have a War On Fat guide starting on pg 131 that highlights the ongoing rise of obesity in this country and gives you some great expert-led tips for changing your eating habits for life. Finally, if you have a specific medical question or query, you can find me on Twitter – I regularly answer your questions and offer general advice where possible. Tweet me – @DoctorChristian . Stay happy and healthy.

Having endured what felt like the longest winter in the world, at last spring seems to be here which has inspired me to get out in the open and breathe in lungfuls of fresh air, after been cooped up indoors for so long. And as the sun shines a bit more and the days gradually get longer, I’m ready to ramp up my exercise routine and get back on track with my healthy eating campaign. Planning this issue with Dr Christian Jessen highlighted the growing obestity epidemic – and in our special report on page 131, we meet two women who have decided to make big life changes, having both reached over 20st. They tell their inspiring stories about their tipping point and when they realised they had to take action. But, in the process of building a better body, we shouldn’t forget about our general health. And these pages are filled with news of cancer advancements, medical treatments and innovations, as well as heart health tips plus effective ways to deal with back pain. What’s more, we bring you a bumper beauty guide featuring all the latest aesthetics procedures – with advice from medical experts – to help you make the right choice. Have a healthy and happy month.
