Mocktails made easy

Survive Dry January this year by indulging in one of these delicious non-alcoholic cocktails…

The beginning of the year tends to be the time when many of us begin to eat healthily, join the gym, give up smoking and in more recent years, try out Dry January.

Over 2,000 people took part last year, challenging themselves and friends to banish the booze for 31 days. Sounds simple, but when it comes to that work night out or house party mid-month, temptation can arise – especially if there are little alternatives to swap for that cheeky cosmo or gin and tonic.

To help you stay on track we have selected some of the most delicious mocktails we could find. So, let’s all raise our alcohol free glasses and say ‘cheers to Dry January’…

Apperitivo di pasata 2‘Apertivo di Passata’ – Virgin Bloody Mary

Ingredients
Napolina Passata with Peppers & Chilli
2 x limes
1/4 nutmeg grated
4 teaspoons of sugar Salt and pepper

Method
Mix passata, lime juice, nutmeg, salt and pepper in a bowl and chill in the fridge.
Wet the rim of a glass and dip into sugar.
Add the chilled mixture to the glass and serve with a slice of lime.

Mint Tea Collins 1Mintea Collins

Ingredients
60ml Peppermint Tea (20 hour infusion) from Rare Tea Company
15ml Organic Heather Honey
10ml Fresh-pressed Lemon
Garnish: Lemon Twist, Fresh Mint Sprig

Method
Infuse 6g of Peppermint Tea in 1 litre cold water for 20 hours.
Strain using a strainer. Then re-strain using an unbleached coffee filter – this increases the shelf life of the tea.

To Serve
Add 15ml of Organic Heather Honey and 10ml of Lemon Juice to 60ml of Peppermint Tea iced tea.
Shake and then strain into collins glass over ice, garnish with a lemon twist and fresh mint sprig.

Chocolate martiniChocolate Martini

Ingredients
150ml Alpro Coconut Original drink
1 tsp honey
1 tsp cocoa powder
1 sprig of fresh mint
Handful of ice

Method
Add the Alpro Coconut Original, honey, cocoa powder and fresh mint into a blender.
Blend until smooth.
Pour the mixture over ice in a glass and serve.
Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

roseKiss From a Rosé

Ingredients
100ml Eisberg Rosé
½ pink grapefruit
½ a lemon
Elderflower cordial
1 tsp sugar

To Garnish
Rose petals

Method
Add 100ml of alcohol-free Rosé to a mixing glass.
Squeeze into the glass half a pink grapefruit and 1/2 a lemon and add a splash of elderflower cordial and 1tsp of sugar.
Stir the mixture until chilled and strain into a sugar-rimmed glass.
Sprinkle with rose petals and enjoy.
