Sinead O’Connor hits back at Miley Cyrus after singer mocks her on Twitter

Sinead O’Connor has hit back at Miley Cyrus after the 20-year-old singer appeared to mock her mental health issues. This turned nasty far sooner than we expected it to! Sinead has responded with a third letter having already told Miley: ‘You are a danger to women’.

Who’d have thought it? The public feud between 80’s singer Sinead O’ Connor and Disney Channel alum Miley Cyrus has escalated overnight with the Nothing Compares singer even threatening Miley with legal action after she appeared to poke fun at her mental illness on Twitter.

It all began after Miley stated in an interview that the video for her new single Wrecking Ball was inspired by Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares To You video. Touched by this, Sinead took the opportunity to respond to Miley with an open letter which she said was written “in the spirit of motherliness”.

Sinead warned: “Nothing but harm will come in the long run, from allowing yourself to be exploited, please, in future, say no when you are asked to prostitute yourself. I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos.”

She continues:

“It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping. It is absolutely NOT in ANY way an empowerment of yourself or any other young women, for you to send across the message that you are to be valued (even by you) more for your sexual appeal than your obvious talent.”

However, it seems Miley was not at all impressed by Sinead’s letter, and in response tweeted a photo of a string of disturbing tweets by Sinead alluding to her mental health issues. The tweets, sent two years ago, clearly show Sinead in a desperate state of mind and begging for help. Under the picture, Miley insensitively wrote ‘Before Amanda Bynes there was….’

Understandably outraged by this response, Sinead hit back at Miley in another open letter on her Facebook page:

“You have posted today tweets of mine which are two years old, which were posted by me when I was unwell and seeking help so as to make them look like they are recent. In doing so you mock myself and Amanda Bynes for having suffered with mental health issues and for having sought help.
I mean really really… who advises you? have you any idea how stupid and dangerous it is to mock people for suffering illness? You will yourself one day suffer such illness, that is without doubt.”

In response to this, Miley simply tweeted:

“Sinead. I don’t have time to write you an open letter cause Im hosting & performing on SNL this week. So if you’d like to meet up and talk lemme know in your next letter :)” (sic)

This was not the reply Sinead was hoping for, and in her third letter, (she’s really good at this right?) she expresses that she has no interest in meeting with Miley:

“I have no interest in or desire to cause you trouble but if you do not apologise for having deliberately tried to cause me hurt and trouble personally and professionally I will have to bring pressure upon you. When you end up in the psych ward or rehab I’ll be happy to visit you.. and would not lower myself to mock you. Be a proper woman and make the public apologies I have listed above.”

We’re not expecting an apology from Miss Cyrus any time soon…
